Evie Ladin & Keith Terry

April/May 2022

California-based duo Evie Ladin and Keith Terry perform a hugely entertaining mix of Appalachian roots music, step dance and body percussion. Multi-talented singer, songwriter, clawhammer banjo player and step-dancer Evie Ladin is a supreme live performer. Evie was a recipient of the 2020 Jubilation Fellowship, awarded to artists with an exceptional talent for bringing joy to people through music and movement! She grew up surrounded by traditional folk music, playing banjo from the age of 8 and clogging since she was just 5. Evie attended Brown University where she created a major in African Studies in Dance, later studying dance in Nigeria on a Fulbright Fellowship. Formerly a member of the Stairwell Sisters, Evie is steeped in Appalachian music and dance, but also brings a contemporary vision to her music – in her work with Keith Terry and the Evie Ladin Band, and as leader and choreographer of the all-female MoToR/dance contemporary dance company. She’s also an in-demand music and dance tutor. Trained as a jazz drummer, talented musician & dancer Keith Terry takes care of double bass and percussion, with clever lines and unusual grooves, as well as joining Evie in dance elements of their performances. Keith is the founder of the International Body Music festival and is a spectacular proponent of the art of body percussion. He’s an in-demand tutor and performer at venues and festivals worldwide, and is the ensemble director of Crosspulse, a California-based non-profit dedicated to rhythm-based intercultural music and dance. Together, Evie and Keith create a mesmerising live show full of variety. The duo has toured the UK a number of times, including acclaimed performances and workshops at WOMAD Festival 2018.

Jake Blount Band

May/June 2022

Thanks to all the promoters and audiences who supported Jake’s 2022 tour

Jake Blount is a compelling, award-winning young artist whose debut full length solo album Spider Tales was released in 2020 to widespread acclaim, with glowing reviews from The Guardian, Rolling Stone and more. An exceptional banjoist and fiddler, and powerful, soulful singer, Jake was also one of the winners of the 2020 Steve Martin Banjo Prize. Jake’s work shines a light on the major contributions that Black, Indigenous and LGBTQ artists have made to American folk and traditional music, often previously overlooked. Jake has studied with roots music luminaries including Rhiannon Giddens and Bruce Molsky, and has shared his music and research at the Newport Folk Festival, the Smithsonian Institution and Yale University, among many other prestigious venues. Jake has collaborated with numerous stellar musicians including fiddler Tatiana Hargreaves and step dancer Nic Gareiss, and has previously toured with The Moose Whisperers and the duo Tui. On this 2022 tour he’ll be performing with his own sensational stringband, whose regular line-up includes George Jackson (fiddle, banjo), Nelson Williams (bass) and Gus Tritsch (guitar), all super talented in their own right. We’re particularly excited to hear that George is likely to be part of the touring band, after we had to cancel 2020 tour plans for this wonderful multi-instrumentalist. Expect a captivating blend of old time fiddle tunes, evocative jazz and blues songs and footstomping bluegrass.

Vivian Leva & Riley Calcagno

May/June 2022

Two of the brightest young talents on the USA’s roots music scene, Vivian Leva & Riley Calcagno combine exquisite musicianship, compelling songs and gorgeous singing. Their debut self-titled album was released in 2021, produced by acclaimed Grammy-winning Cajun musician Joel Savoy, and was warmly reviewed. It combines acoustic Americana,  classic country and dashes of old time and bluegrass.  In live performance, Viv and Riley are absolutely magnetic, and sure to enchant audiences when they return to the UK this spring. Vivian Leva grew up in Lexington, Virginia, going to fiddle festivals with her parents, both acclaimed roots musicians in their own right. Her debut solo album Time Is Everything was recorded in 2018, while she was still a college student, and that same year was named in a Rolling Stone feature as one of the top ten country artists to watch. Riley Calcagno has also been immersed in traditional music from an early age. Originally from Seattle, he grew up at festivals learning fiddle directly from old masters of the style. His musical skills also span banjo, guitar, mandolin and voice. Riley is a founding member of The Onlies, an acclaimed young stringband formed in 2006 when the members were still very young children (Vivian joined the quartet in 2017).  The band won the 2017 band contest at the fabled Appalachian Stringband Festival in Clifftop, WV, and released their debut album of footstomping fiddle tunes and classic bluegrass songs in 2020.

Stillhouse Junkies

June 2022

This talented American trio combines influences including bluegrass, Americana, Western Swing, classic country, rock and blues to create a groove-filled blend of American roots music. Born out of a residency at a distillery in Durango, Colorado, Stillhouse Junkies worked hard to build their following across the USA over the last few years. They wowed audiences at the 2021 IBMA conference and festival, winning the International Bluegrass Music Association Momentum Band Award and picking up a record deal with prestigious Nashville label Dark Shadow Recording.  Stillhouse Junkies are stunningly entertaining in live performance, combining fine musicianship, outstanding songs and an energetic stage presence. Fred Kosak (guitar, mandolin, vocals), Alissa Wolf (fiddle, vocals), and Cody Tinnin (double bass, banjo, vocals) have built up an eclectic catalogue of original music, with evocative songs that run the gamut of human experience. With three albums to their name including 2020’s ironically named Calamity, Stillhouse Junkies spent several years constantly performing live (an average of 250 shows a year!) before the pandemic brought their travelling to a standstill. In early 2022 they began recording their third album, due for release this year. We’re delighted to be bringing them to the UK for their debut tour.

The Slocan Ramblers

September 2022

Award-winning Canadian bluegrass band The Slocan Ramblers return in September 2022 for their fourth UK tour. Combining superlative musicianship and catchy songs with an appealing stage presence, this sensational quartet has long been a leading light of Canada’s roots music scene. Their third album, Queen City Jubilee, gained a prestigious 2019 JUNO Award Nomination and won Traditional Album of the Year at the 2020 Canadian Folk Music Awards. The Slocan Ramblers also won the International Bluegrass Music Association’s 2020 Momentum Band Award. After an enforced pause due to the pandemic, in 2021 the band got back in the studio, recommenced touring, and their brand new album Up The Hill and Through the Fog was released in June 2022. The Slocan Ramblers have been busy gigging across the USA and Canada again since summer 2021, also making a brief foray to headline the Bluegrass Omagh festival in Northern Ireland in May. With their new album receiving glowing reviews everywhere, the Slocans can’t wait to return to the UK this September to share their new music and delight audiences.

I Draw Slow

October 2022

Fri, 28/10/2022 Saltburn Arts Saltburn by the Sea, North Yorks
Sat, 29/10/2022 Coniston Institute Coniston, Cumbria
Sun, 30/10/2022 The Live Room Saltaire, West Yorkshire

Popular Americana-roots band I Draw Slow have been honing their craft for over a decade, selling out venues in their native Ireland and releasing four albums to critical acclaim. Performing a compelling blend of old time and contemporary Americana, the Dublin-based quintet has built a strong reputation across the Atlantic, and were signed to leading Nashville label Compass Records in 2017. The band is well-established on the American folk and roots scene, touring numerous times across 25 states and performing at many major USA festivals including Merlefest and Grey Fox. I Draw Slow released their fifth, self-titled album in September 2022, and it’s been receiving glowing reviews to add to the praise already heaped on its four predecessors. I Draw Slow imbue their brand of roots music with an appealing, distinctive flavour, with Louise Holden’s captivating voice complemented by outstanding musicianship on fiddle (Adrian Hart), clawhammer banjo (Colin Derham), acoustic guitar (Dave Holden) and double bass (Konrad Liddy). Siblings Louise and Dave have been writing songs together since a very young age, and their brother-sister harmonies add extra charm to the band’s sound.
