Hailing from Virginia, The Honey Dewdrops settled in Baltimore in 2014 after a long stretch of living on the road. This outstanding Americana/roots duo (Laura Wortman and Kagey Parrish) has been touring full time for almost 10 years throughout North America, and made their first European foray in late 2016 on Germany’s Bluegrass Jamboree tour. With gorgeous vocal harmonies and a versatile musical set-up that includes clawhammer banjo, mandolin, harmonica and guitars, the duo treats listeners to a raft of memorable, beautifully performed songs. Although undeniably steeped in old-time music, bluegrass and country, The Honey Dewdrops exquisitely encompass both traditional and modern in their unique sound. They have released four albums, and are working on their next release. True North Music is delighted to be bringing The Honey Dewdrops to the UK for the first time in 2019.

Mile Twelve

Mile Twelve is an exceptionally talented young quintet, walking the line beautifully between contemporary and traditional bluegrass. The band has been on a swift rise since forming in 2014 in Boston, where two members studied at the fabled Berklee College of Music. This engaging young five-piece delivers breathtaking live performances which feature outstanding musicianship and vocal harmonies. Their entertaining material includes creative covers as well as their own acclaimed bluegrass and folk originals and a sprinkling of traditional songs. Mile Twelve have performed extensively throughout the USA, Canada, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand and Australia, and won the 2017 Momentum Award at the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Awards. Evan Murphy (guitar/vocals), Bronwyn Keith‐Hynes (fiddle/vocals), Catherine “BB” Bowness (banjo/vocals), Nate Sabat (double bass/vocals) and David Benedict (mandolin/vocals) already have a wealth of musical awards and touring and performing experience under their belts, and we’re delighted to bring the band to the UK for the first time!

Ron Block & Tony Furtado

Everyone was blown away by this special super-duo tour!
Ron Block is one of the most acclaimed banjoists on the American roots music scene. A longtime member of Alison Krauss & Union Station, Ron is also a superb guitarist, multiple Grammy winner and songwriter. Ron has performed and recorded with Kate Rusby, Brad Paisley and Sierra Hull to name just a few. Tony Furtado is an exceptional banjoist, slide guitarist, singer and songwriter who came to prominence when he won the Winfield National Banjo championships as a teenager. He has toured worldwide for over 25 years and has collaborated with world class musicians including Jerry Douglas, Tim O’Brien and Dirk Powell. Nashville veteran Ron has won 14 Grammy Awards and has released several solo albums in addition to his work with AKUS. He has played, recorded and collaborated with dozens of renowned musicians including Dolly Parton, Sam Bush and Vince Gill. He has also worked with UK folk favourites Kate Rusby and Damien O’Kane. Tony Furtado is a stunning live performer who has been hailed as a genius on banjo and slide guitar. Also born in California, Tony released six acclaimed albums with Rounder Records which blended jazz, bluegrass, folk and blues influences. He has collaborated, performed and recorded with numerous master musicians including Alison Krauss, Kelly Joe Phelps, Mike Marshall, Seth Lakeman, Matt Flinner and many more. Now based in Portland, Oregon, Tony is an evocative and soulful singer, talented songwriter and virtuoso multi-instrumentalist He has toured worldwide since the 1990s, playing his captivating brand of Americana and acoustic roots both solo and with his band. Ron and Tony are old friends but have never performed together before – this special duo collaboration is guaranteed to be a stellar presentation of American roots music!

John Reischman & the Jaybirds

It was a privilege to book some tour dates for the great John Reischman!
Grammy winner and bandleader John Reischman is a mandolinist of the highest calibre. Celebrated as the master of taste and tone, Reischman cut his teeth with legendary West Coast groups The Tony Rice Unit and The Good Ol’ Persons. In recent years he has cemented his reputation as a sought after guest instrumentalist and leader of this stellar band. With members based across the Pacific Northwest, John Reischman and The Jaybirds have been performing and recording together for over twenty years, and have numerous tours, five critically acclaimed albums, two Juno nominations and two Canadian Folk Music Award nominations to their name. Honey- voiced Trisha Gagnon from British Columbia covers double bass duties, while Nick Hornbuckle (also from BC) is the band’s accomplished banjoist. LA-based guitarist Patrick Sauber completes the regular line-up while acclaimed California fiddler Annie Staninec stands in for regular member Greg Spatz. The seamless ensemble work of these musicians makes for a stylish take on bluegrass that is at once happily old-fashioned, yet with a fresh and modern feel.

California’s Blue Summit is an outstanding contemporary bluegrass and Americana quartet that also takes in elements of western swing, soul, folk, jazz and pop/rock. The band features young rising stars AJ Lee and Sullivan Tuttle, who throughout their teens were members of The Tuttles with AJ Lee (alongside Sully’s elder sister, celebrated guitarist Molly Tuttle). Now in their early 20s, Lee and Tuttle perform together with their talented Blue Summit bandmates Jesse Fichman (guitar) and Chad Bowen (upright bass), combining virtuoso instrumental work with soaring vocals and sweet harmonies. Formed in 2015, Blue Summit brings a fresh modern approach to bluegrass and Americana music and was named 2018 Band of the Year by the Northern California Bluegrass Society. A powerful singer, talented mandolinist and gifted songwriter, bandleader AJ Lee has been making waves on the acoustic scene for many years, performing with The Tuttles since the age of just ten! Blue Summit have released two albums to date, their debut Sweet Company and 2019’s Like I Used To. The band has performed at gigs and festivals across the USA, and summer 2019 sees them embark on their first visit to Europe.

Man About A Horse were sensational on their debut UK tour
Man About a Horse is an exciting quintet from Philadelphia PA, which blends newgrass, Americana, rock, blues and more with classic bluegrass instrumentation and top notch harmony vocals. When we visited the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) festival in Raleigh, North Carolina last year, Man About a Horse was one of the standout acts showcasing at the event. We’re delighted to be bringing the band over for their debut UK tour this summer! A discovery of a shared love of bluegrass by co-founders Matt Thomas (double bass) and Matt “Roy” Royles (guitar/vocals) led to the formation of Man About a Horse in 2014. The line-up is completed by Dan Whitener (Gangstagrass) on banjo/vocals, Matthew Hiller on mandolin, and fiddler Eric Lee. The band has released two studio recordings to date, their 2015 EP and their self-titled debut album in 2017 which earned widespread praise. In 2018 Man About a Horse won the Band contest at Freshgrass festival, were named Emerging Artist at the prestigious Grey Fox Bluegrass festival and were nominated for the IBMA’s Band Momentum Award. This barnstorming live band will get your feet tapping and leave you with a smile on your face!

Hoot and Holler is a groovy young folk/roots duo that blends old time Appalachian traditions with fine contemporary songwriting and musicianship on fiddle, guitar and banjo. Brought together by a mutual love for American folk music, Amy Alvey and Mark Kilianski have been entertaining audiences all over the USA since 2013 and spent the better part of 2016 touring the United States while living in their camper van “Irene”. Now based in Asheville, NC, Amy and Mark are both alumni of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, and combine the polished technique of conservatory training with the grit, drive, and soul of their musical heroes, legendary mountain musicians like Roscoe Holcomb and Ola Belle Reed. Hoot and Holler have released an EP and one full-length album to date, plus a footstomping collaborative release with the Old Time Snake Milkers. They have performed at venues and festivals across the USA and Australia including Australia’s Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass Festival, the Portland Old Time Gathering in Oregon, and the New England Americana Festival to name just a few. We’re delighted to welcome Hoot and Holler on their debut tour of the UK.
Bill and the Belles

Bill and the Belles were absolutely sensational and made lots of new fans on their first UK tour
Bill and the Belles are an entertaining Tennessee quartet featuring gloriously smooth vocal harmonies and exquisite musicianship on fiddle, banjo, guitar and double bass. Influenced by classic country, bluegrass, hillbilly and old time music, Bill and the Belles’ attractive “vintage” persona is rooted in the music of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. The band was nominated for four IBMA (International Bluegrass) awards in 2017 and bandleader Kris Truelsen (lead vocals/guitar) also shares his enthusiasm for traditional American music as a producer for Radio Bristol, housed in the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol, Tennessee. The line-up is completed by superbly talented musicians Kalia Yeagle (fiddle/vocals), Helena Hunt (banjo/vocals) and Andrew Small (upright bass). As the house band for the historic Radio Bristol programme Farm and Fun Time, Bill and the Belles have also regularly played alongside America’s top bluegrass, old time and country/ roots music artists over the last several years. They bring to the stage an uplifting live show full of engaging humour, high spirits, and all-around revelry.

Front Country

Front Country is an acclaimed acoustic band from California, fronted by gifted singer and songwriter Melody Walker. With bluegrass roots but drawing on a broad palette of blues, rock, pop, Americana and jazz influences, Front Country has become renowned as a storming live act on the US acoustic scene. With three previous UK tours under their belts, Front Country return in 2019 for a range of festival and concert performances. Now based in Nashville, this entertaining five-piece is packed with instrumental and songwriting talent, including Jacob Groopman (guitar/vocals), Jeremy Darrow (double bass), Adam “Roscoe” Roszkiewicz (mandolin/vocals) and Leif Karlstrom (fiddle). Touring extensively across the world over the last five years, Front Country released their second album Other Love Songs to warm reviews in 2017 and last year headed up the list of Rolling Stone’s 10 New Country Artists to Watch. Melody Walker won the 2016 Vocalist of the Year Momentum Award at the International Bluegrass Music Association Awards in 2016, and in August 2017 the band was invited to Tibet to take part in a cross-cultural river trip and music festival, where they collaborated with local musicians. This is a simply stunning live band at the height of their powers – don’t miss them!

Hailing from Toronto, multi-talented Canadians The Slocan Ramblers combine impressive bluegrass musicianship with a fresh approach and contemporary appeal. In the last few years the quartet has become a leading light of Canada’s roots music scene, building on their reputation for energetic live shows, impeccable musicianship and an uncanny ability to convert anyone within earshot into a lifelong fan. Their third album, Queen City Jubilee (2018) has already amassed glowing reviews as well as a prestigious Juno Award Nomination for Traditional Roots Album of the Year. The Slocan Ramblers have also been nominated for a coveted Band Momentum Award by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) and will be an official showcase artist at the IBMA’s major event and festival in North Carolina this September. The band returns to the UK in October 2019 after a hugely successful autumn 2018 tour saw them play to packed-out rooms across the country.

Allison de Groot & Tatiana Hargreaves

Drawing on the roots of old time and bluegrass, this impressive duo features two gifted young musicians who are already leading lights in the new generation of American roots music. Talented banjoist Allison De Groot has made a name for herself in Molsky’s Mountain Drifters and The Goodbye Girls (alongside Molly Tuttle). Originally from Winnipeg, Canada, Allison gained a performance degree from the prestigious Berklee College of Music and has since toured all over the world. Tatiana Hargreaves is a phenomenal old time and bluegrass fiddler. Based in North Carolina, Tatiana has toured with luminaries including Gillian Welch, David Rawlings and Bruce Molsky. She released her first solo album in 2009 and has gained acclaim for duo projects with award winning old time musician Jake Blount and with superstar bassist Ethan Jodziewicz. Together, Allison and Tatiana create a sound that is adventurous, masterful and original, whilst still paying homage to the best of Appalachian traditions. In live performance, Allison and Tatiana create scintillating, foot-tapping music, taking the banjo and fiddle duet to another level!
