Previous Tours – 2024

Jake Blount – June 2024

Jake Blount returned for  a successful 2024 run with his trio, which included a mini tour of Northern Ireland organised in partnership with our friends at Moving On Music. Jake Blount is a brilliant American multi-instrumentalist, singer and scholar of Black folk traditions. Jake is an acclaimed artist and rising star of the USA roots music scene, and will tour here in a trio line-up in 2024, featuring regular collaborators, the immensely talented Nelson Williams and Gus Tritsch.  Jake’s work shines a light on the major contributions that Black, Indigenous and LGBTQ artists have made to American folk traditions, often previously overlooked. This exceptional young musician has received numerous accolades for his 2020 debut Spider Tales, and the 2022 follow-up, The New Faith, which aims to envision what Black religious music might sound like in a not-so-distant future world devastated by climate change. It was released as part of Smithsonian Folkways’ prestigious African-American Legacy Series and garnered stellar reviews, from The Guardian, Rolling Stone and many more.

Jake has collaborated with renowned musicians including Tatiana Hargreaves and Nic Gareiss, and has been touring widely under his own name since 2021, both solo and with his own band. He has presented his music and research at numerous prestigious venues including Newport Folk Festival and the Smithsonian Institution, and since the release of The New Faith, Jake has been more in demand than ever, touring widely across the USA and beyond. Over the last couple of years, Jake has performed on the iconic NPR Tiny Desk concert, was featured on Mark Radcliffe’s BBC Radio Two Folk Show, and was nominated for Folk Alliance International’s 2023 Folk Artist of the Year Award. He has been exploring new sounds including electric guitar and percussion, married effectively with the ancient tones of the banjo and fiddle. Jake is an extremely special artist doing important work, and we’re delighted to be working with him again on this 2024 tour. He will be performing with his trio, featuring outstanding double bassist Nelson Williams and gifted multi-instrumentalist Gus Tritsch (guitar, fiddle, banjo uke). Expect a mix of evocative songs and footstomping fiddle tunes, all delivered with a fresh creative approach and featuring exceptional musicianship and soulful singing.

Golden Shoals – June 2024

The 2024 Golden Shoals tour won them lots of new fans and we received loads of amazing feedback!

We’re delighted to be planning 2024 UK tour dates for Golden Shoals, a hugely entertaining American duo that blends aspects of Americana, folk, bluegrass, Cajun, jazz and more. Combining old time Appalachian traditions with outstanding contemporary songwriting, Amy Alvey and Mark Kilianski are fine singers and superb musicians, and have been entertaining audiences across the USA since 2013. They have also toured internationally in Australia, Canada, Germany and the UK (making their debut tour here in 2019 under their previous name Hoot & Holler).  The duo has an appealing stage presence to complement their impressive musicianship, with a genuine talent for engaging audiences. Mark is a staggeringly good guitar player, and is also excellent on clawhammer banjo. Amy is a talented and versatile fiddler, and is also a great acoustic guitar player.

Mark and Amy are both alumni of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, where they first started to perform together. Inspired by the enduring spirit of their Appalachian mountain music heroes, including Roscoe Holcomb and Ola Belle Reid, Golden Shoals blend the grit and soul of these influences with the polished technique of their conservatory training, creating a fresh new sound. Formerly known as Hoot & Holler (changing their band name in 2020 to avoid confusion with another artist), the duo released an EP and one full-length album under their original name, and their latest album Golden Shoals in summer 2020, plus several more recent singles. Amy and Mark have long been in demand for other projects too – they’re both members of old time supergroup Tune Hash, and Mark was part of the 2021 Adeline album project alongside members of Lonesome Ace Stringband and the Slocan Ramblers.
