Allison de Groot & Tatiana Hargreaves
May 2023
Thanks to everyone who came out to see this sensational duo
Allison de Groot and Tatiana Hargreaves are both leading lights in the younger generation of roots musicians. They’re appearing this February on the Transatlantic Sessions live tour, which tells you all you need to know about their exceptional talents and reputation on the roots music scene. Together, Allison and Tatiana create a sound that’s adventurous, masterful and original, whilst still paying homage to the best of Appalachian traditions. Renowned Canadian clawhammer banjoist Allison de Groot is also celebrated for her peerless musicianship as a member of Molsky’s Mountain Drifters and in her duo with step dancer Nic Gareiss. Originally from Winnipeg, Allison gained a performance degree from the prestigious Berklee College of Music and has toured all over the world with her various projects. Phenomenal American fiddler Tatiana Hargreaves is known for her mastery of multiple fiddle styles including bluegrass, old time, folk and country, and has performed and recorded with luminaries including Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings, Bruce Molsky and Jake Blount. Tatiana also played on the Grammy-nominated Laurie Lewis album The Hazel And Alice Sessions, and released her own solo original instrumental suite Soledad in 2021. The duo’s 2019 debut album showcased their hugely impressive musicianship and reflected on the expansive, diverse canon of American roots music. Allison and Tatiana’s second album, 2022’s Hurricane Clarice, sees the two musicians exploring more personal influences and themes, and showcases Allison and Tatiana at the height of their powers. For Allison and Tatiana, traditional music is a way to interpret our uncertain times, and draw artistic inspiration and power from the sources of meaning in their lives. In concert, Allison and Tatiana create compelling performances that take the banjo and fiddle duet to another level.

Jake Blount
June/July 2023
We’re delighted to announce a handful of summer 2023 UK dates by the sensational roots artist Jake Blount, following on from his appearance at the massive Roskilde Festival in Denmark. These performances will be in a trio line-up featuring bassist Nelson Williams and multi-instrumentalist Gus Tritsch, both outstanding musicians who are regular members of Jake’s touring band. Jake Blount is one of the most important voices on the American roots music scene. A talented multi-instrumentalist and powerful, soulful singer, Jake’s work shines a light on the major contributions that Black, Indigenous and LGBTQ artists have made to American folk traditions, often previously overlooked. This exceptional young musician and scholar received numerous accolades for his 2020 debut solo album Spider Tales, and his 2022 follow-up, The New Faith, has met with even more acclaim. It sees Jake exploring some new sounds including electric guitar and percussion, married effectively with the old tones of the banjo and fiddle. Conceived, written and recorded during the darkest months of Covid lockdowns, the album aims to envision what Black religious music might sound like in a not-so-distant future world devastated by climate change. It was released as part of Smithsonian Folkways’ African-American Legacy Series and has garnered stellar reviews, from The Guardian, Rolling Stone and many more. Jake has collaborated with renowned musicians including Tatiana Hargreaves and Nic Gareiss, and has been touring widely under his own name since 2021, both solo and with his own band. In recent months Jake has performed on the iconic NPR Tiny Desk concert, was featured on Mark Radcliffe’s BBC Radio Two Folk Show, and nominated for Folk Alliance International’s Folk Artist of the Year Award.

Jordan Tice & Liv Greene
July 2023
We’re very excited to announce a unique duo tour coming up, featuring two exceptional roots music artists from the USA. We have been enjoying the music of Jordan Tice and Liv Greene for several years now, and had the great idea to bring these two Nashville-based artists together for a collaborative UK tour. Jordan Tice is a guitarist, singer and songwriter celebrated for his exceptional mastery of both fingerstyle and flatpicking guitar styles and a wide range of acoustic genres. Probably best known as a member of acclaimed folk-bluegrass supergroup Hawktail, his stellar musicianship is complemented by witty, well-crafted songs. Jordan’s fifth album, 2020’s Motivational Speakeasy, was produced by Kenneth Pattengale of the Milk Carton Kids and garnered rave reviews. The follow-up, his 2021 EP Yesteryears, features five original instrumentals that show off Jordan’s phenomenal skill, and range of styles from folk to blues and jazz. He is also an in-demand sideman, and has worked with celebrated artists including Dave Rawlings, Yola and banjo/comedy legend Steve Martin.

Born in Washington DC, Liv Greene is an award-winning young songwriter and performer now based in Nashville, Tennessee. Her 2020 debut album Every Bright Penny is packed with dreamy, evocative songs that feature Liv’s gorgeous, distinctive voice front and centre, and her second album is due to be released in 2023. Liv took up guitar and songwriting at a young age and discovered Americana, bluegrass and old-time music in her teens, particularly inspired by attending Miles of Music camp. She attended Interlochen Arts Academy and the New England Conservatory in Boston, regularly teaches songwriting workshops via the legendary Club Passim venue and music school in Boston, and already has a clutch of songwriting awards to her credit. I’ve been keen to bring Liv to the UK ever since I first heard her exceptional music several years ago, and she featured in our Streaming Across the Sea online festival last year. A mesmerising and very special artist.
Bill and the Belles
June 2023
The fun and fabulous Bill and the Belles feature gloriously smooth vocal harmonies, exquisite musicianship and a brilliantly entertaining stage presence. They’ll be touring the UK in June 2023 as a trio featuring fiddle, banjo and guitar. Massively entertaining but hard to categorise, this American band from Johnson City, Tennessee is influenced by classic country, bluegrass and old time music, but they’re also inspired by pop, punk and Motown, especially those classic harmonies which hark back to groups like the Ronettes and The Shangri-Las. Bandleader Kris Truelsen (lead vocals, guitar) also shares his enthusiasm for traditional American music as a renowned producer and presenter for WBCM Radio Bristol, housed in the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol, Tennessee. The trio line-up comprises Kris alongside superbly talented musicians Kalia Yeagle (fiddle, vocals), who also teaches Old Time Music at East Tennessee State University, and sensational banjoist and singer Aidan VanSuetendael. As the house band for the historic Radio Bristol programme Farm and Fun Time – now a syndicated TV show which is also produced and hosted by Kris Truelsen – Bill and the Belles regularly perform alongside America’s top country, bluegrass and roots music artists, in an engaging variety style format with segments highlighting Appalachian culture. The bespoke jingles that they write and perform for the show’s sponsors are another fun element of the band’s unique appeal, and it’s no surprise that Farm and Fun Time was picked up by US public television network PBS in 2020. It now airs in around 20 million homes throughout the southern USA, as well as being broadcast live on Radio Bristol.
